#GrenacheDay… for Grenache lovers everywhere!
What makes Grenache…
… THE PERFECT PARTNER for food pairing?
… THE COMFORT GRAPE with its velvety, voluptuous mouthfeel?
… THE GRAPE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN, growing where olives grow?
Every 3rd Friday in September,
Ask a sommelier or wine merchant
and learn more about this groovy grape!
The third Friday of every September marks International #GrenacheDay— an annual global awareness event created by the Grenache Association in 2010 to spread the gospel of this great grape to wine lovers around the world. Grenache is one of the world’s most widely sown and yet widely unknown grape varietals; it is planted on 6 of the 7 continents and makes great wines greater in bottled blends, adding character, grace, and depth, and complements foods as a standalone wine. #GrenacheDay celebrates the grape known as Grenache in France, the United States, and Australia, Garnacha or Garnaxa in Spain, and Cannonau in Italy. #whodrinksGrenache? You Do! Most people don’t know that they enjoy Grenache every time they open a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape or most Southern Rhone wines from France, and many rosés from Provence, too. GSM (Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre) from the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale in Australia, as well as Aragon or Priorat wines from Spain are also Grenache. In the United States, you can find Grenache in scintillating selections from Santa Barbara, wild and wonderful wines from Washington State, and power-packed Paso Robles reds. Search for #GrenacheDay in your browser to discover this not-for-profit social media phenomenon with thousands of events at wineries, restaurants, and wine shops in 30+ countries, as well as a flood of posts, tweets, chats, and other engagements by wine lovers. #whodrinksGrenache? Top winemakers do! They love blending this grape which reflects its deep-rooted terroir in every sip or embracing its starring role qualities as a single blend. They appreciate that it’s a climate-change warrior with long roots reaching down to the water table instead of relying on rainfall or irrigation. #whodrinksGrenache? Wine connoisseurs who welcome its velvety and voluptuous mouthfeel and complexity. #whodrinksGrenache? “I do,” exclaim more and more people around the world who have come to appreciate its sophisticated taste, which pairs so beautifully with foods ranging from grilled to spicy and ethnic foods. Grenachistas near and far enjoy it as a rosé for an aperitif, a white Grenache with starters, a fuller red with the main, and a fortified or sweet wine with cheese or dessert. #GrenacheDay Fun: Join the conversation with #GrenacheDay and post your photos and videos on Twitter @grenache_global, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GrenacheSymposium or Instagram.
